We totally agree with you. As coordinators of VISIBILITY FREEPORT, we have chosen the 8–10 a.m. timeframe weekly for its consistency. Contrary to the comments by the original poster, people who participate are a mixed bag. Many arrive before they go to work, work shifts, or are self-employed. The people we are visible to are also a mixed group. They wave and beep, and some have changed their route to show solidarity. Our roaring reception in the July 4 parade in town shows we are getting our point across, weekday or not.

The Saturday protests have brought out the beepers and those who have time on the weekend, which is very nice. The reality is that those showing up in greater numbers is the direct result of our presence each Tuesday. Our visibility is informing the passersby, showing them that action can be part of their life, too. They’ve seen us, week after week, have become comfortable with us, they make signs, and come out to stand with us. The numbers have grown, from two protesters to our top number of 2,000.

It does not matter who stands where, it matters that it happens and happens and happens. One of our driving points is that we are in a marathon, not a fun run. Get out, show up, or beep, beep, beep. It is a real need. And Zombies, yes, are out and about…
